The Night It Started
You stole ten million dollars. Nobody is looking for it, because you're the guy they paid to destroy it. And somebody watched you do it.
He wants five million. Pay him, or trap him? Or, if you know who he is, name him.
TRAP won. The majority wrote Part 8.
1379 found the hidden option: NAME. Over 1,000 names unlocked the third way. You named the analyst, and Part 8 proved you right.
What happened
Before the motel, before the bags, you worked nights in the vault's shred room. Your job: feed worn-out money into the machine. Ten million dollars a night, for seventeen dollars an hour.
Three years in, you noticed the flaw. Nobody checks the money, only the weight. So you tested it at home: paper cut to the size of a bill weighs the same. For six months, blank paper came in under your lunch.
Destroying money takes two signatures: yours and a witness from upstairs. Most nights that was Walt, and Walt sleeps. One Tuesday, Walt didn't come. A stranger did. He watched you swap the bags, money into the trash, paper into the shredder, and he signed anyway: "Thirty days. Not one dollar. Then we split it." You kept the yellow copy.
61% spared Dre, so nobody took the fall and the case stays open. Bag two is gone for good. You mailed Dre his chain, and someone else emptied his mailbox first. Now you're L. James, on a night shift two states away, and someone left a bag of blank paper in your dumpster: half. Tomorrow.
